Each one of my displays are unique and contain naturally found pieces from my exploration that have been ethically collected from unprotected public lands. I also incorporate found, upcycled, and thrifted items along with minerals and fossils from locally owned shops.
Here’s the story behind this hand painted cicada display:
• Two naturally deceased 13-year periodical cicadas (Magicicada sp.) from my yard in Hermitage, TN during the mass emergence of the Great Southern Brood (Brood XIX) in 2024.
• One naturally deceased annual cicada (Neotibicen linnei, Linne’s Cicada) found along a shop path in Mount Juliet, TN in 2023.
• The flora included are dahlia blossoms that I preserved from a clearance bouquet of cut flowers from a local shop in Nashville, TN, an eastern redbud seed pod, periwinkle leaves, dried lavender, and fallen lichen from my yard in Hermitage, TN.
• The frame and vintage fabric used were both purchased from a crafting reuse shop in Nashville, TN. The accent paper was a gifted book of vintage Victorian style dollhouse wallpaper from a local friend. This frame measures approximately 8"x6" and is just a bit over 1" deep.
Each display arrives carefully packaged, signed on the reverse, and includes a print out with all of the information for the items used to create the scene and care instructions.
