These mushrooms really put the fun in funeral! Funeral Bells (Galerina marginata) are extremely poisonous mushrooms in the Agaricales order and contain the same amatoxin as another infamous species: the Death Cap (Amanita phalloides). These saprobic mushrooms can be found across North America from Canada to Mexico, feeding on decaying conifers and hardwoods.
My hand drawn, linocut style design features a cluster of Funeral Bell mushrooms in different stages of fruiting amongst scattered stars and a crescent moon. I’ve paired them with the jagged foliage of one of my favorite native plants, the Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans).
